CAA is thrilled about having co-ed teams and encourages student-athletes to get involved. Here’s a deep dive into the benefits we have found from offering co-ed sports at our participating schools.
Co-ed Sports Diversify a Team
A team with both genders will have a much more varied skill set. Every athlete has their own individual skill set and talent that they bring to a team, however, in many instances, women players can also bring more stamina and muscle endurance. This means that women players may be able to run longer and get tired less. Whilst male athletes are however usually built larger than women, have more muscle mass and denser bones and therefore bring a different strength to the team. A team that encompasses all of these qualities and that has a coach who knows how to put these talents to good use, may give a better sports performance than a single-gender team.
Co-ed Sports Encourage Mutual Respect Between the Genders
Interaction between genders in a group sport encourages friendship and mutual respect. Each player is valued and recognized not only for their own unique athletic skill set but for how their talent completes a team, making it stronger and more united.
Sportsmanship also reaches new heights when it is reciprocated between genders. Whether a player protects another on the field, or passes the ball to the faster player, or sticks up for a friend off the field no matter their gender, that is the true meaning of sportsmanship. This interaction and respect will continue on even off the field and throughout every athlete’s life.
Strength in Numbers
Co-ed teams are particularly a great idea for smaller schools or associations that have students who love playing a sport but who are unable to compete as there is not an adequate number of same-gender athletes to put together a team. A co-ed team is then the perfect solution. One multi-talented team, passionate about the sport.
CAA is pleased to have a JH and HS Co-ed Soccer team. Over recent years the teams have had wonderful seasons and have played many exciting games. As sports have momentarily been canceled, we hope this spring season will be able to continue on at a later date.
