Sportsmanship

“Sportsmanship for me is when a guy walks off the court and you really can’t tell whether he won or lost, when he carries himself with pride either way.”

Champions of Character - CAA

Champions of Character – CAA
Our mission is to instill the values that build character, so students, coaches, and parents know, do, and value the right thing on and off the field. The program helps participants find balance by keeping the five core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership – at the heart of the athletics experience.
Students learn to understand how the values play out in both practice and competition. Coaches are taught how to intentionally define, model, shape, and reinforce these values through their coaching and mentoring. Parents learn how their behavior is key to supporting athletics.

Core Values
The Champions of Character – CAA five core values go well beyond the playing field to the daily decisions of our youth. These character values help young people – and those associated with their development – make good choices in all aspects of their life and reflect the true spirit of competition.
star 1 Integrity / Know and do what is right

star 2 Respect / Treating others the way you want to be treated

star 3 Responsibility / Embrace opportunities to contribute

Officials
It is important that everyone understands the role they play in developing champions of character including officials. As officials of the CAA, your role is vital as you have the opportunity to shape the lives of young people by ensuring that ethics, sportsmanship and fair play remain important factors during competition. We will ask you once again to continue to enforce the expectations of the CAA by the following:
  • Enforce a “zero tolerance” rule on profanity in CAA competition. CAA officials will be expected to apply penalties (e.g., personal fouls, yellow cards) to any participant (player or coach) in CAA competition.
  • Game officials must submit an ejection report through the CAA office when an ejection of a coach or student-athlete occurs during a contest.
