Concussions. They’re all over the news, and even in movies. You’ve probably heard that having too many, or even one serious one, can cause problems later in life. What you may not know is how to reduce the risk of concussion, what to do immediately after a concussion, and what can be done in the long term to speed recovery. The Dignity Health Concussion Network can help you on all three of these fronts. Our goal is to provide you access to quality information from our medical professionals, as well as resources and learning tools that can help people from all walks of life avoid concussion or respond correctly and quickly to a concussion. BARROW INSTITUTE

CAA STUDENT ATHLETE REQUIRED CONCUSSION COURSE

* All CAA Student Athlete’s must view  this course before they can participate in any CAA athletic competition *

This course designed by the Barrow Neurological Institute and brought to you by Dignity Health and the CAA.

This course is required by all CAA student-athletes prior to participation in practice or competition per the CAA Constitution.  This online course must be completed by the student-athlete only once during the player’s JH or HS career.  If a student took the course as a JH player, he/she MUST take the course before competing in any HS practice or game. 

SPECIAL EXEMPTION FOR JH STUDENTS

The League approved JH students to watch the below video to meet the concussion requirement.  Schools must verify which students watched the video by completing the Concussion Waiver Form. 

CONCUSSION VIDEO

Concussion for Students, developed in Partnership with the Barrow Neurological Institute, has been designed specifically for students to inform them on how to identify, react to, and prevent concussions.  This free course is presented as a social media conversation, showing how four different students learn about concussion in different ways.  It includes high school students and medical professionals discussing concussion.  The key goal is for students to be able to identify signs and symptoms of a concussion so that they can get immediate help before any further injury can occur.

REQUIRED CONCUSSION COURSE FOR COACHES!

All CAA Coaches and Assistant Coaches must take this course as part of their requirement to be certified.

Learn the impact of sports-related concussion on athletes, how to recognize a suspected concussion, and protocols to manage a suspected concussion with steps to help players return to play safely after a concussion.
