CAA Spotlight: Coach Espana

This week at CAA we are highlighting Coach Adrian Espana from the Western School of Science and Technology, the home of the Warriors. Adrian has been coaching football, shot put and discus throwing for the past ten years. Get to know a little about him and how his football team is doing this season.

Which sports do you coach and how long have you been coaching?

Football and Shot and Discus. This will be my 10th year coaching.

Which athlete inspired you growing up?

I looked up to Athletes such as Emmitt Smith, but it was my high school coaches that really inspired me, like Coach Widaire, Coach Saldana, and Coach Medrano.

What are you looking forward to this season?

This is a special year. I have been coaching the seniors in the team since they were in 7th grade and I am excited to see how they will do on the field and off.

How did your team perform this season?

We have a strong team this year with experience and we should be in the running to win State.

What growth do you expect from the team this year?

Every year we have been getting better. 1st year in Varsity we missed the playoffs by 1 game, 2nd year in varsity we played in the semifinal game, and this year with our experience I expect us playing in the State Championship Game.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give your athletes?

To Be Warrior Strong: This means that life is not easy, that obstacles will be in our way but we must continue to fight, we must continue to push forward, and work towards accomplishing our goals. To Be Maryvale Proud: Your represent our community, our school, and family. Be proud of who you are and where you come from and don’t ever forget the people that help you get to where you are.

With 5 wins and 1 loss, we are excited to see the Warriors play on October 19th at 7:00 PM vs Southgate at Anza Trail School located at 15490 S Rancho Sahuarita Blvd, Sahuarita, AZ 85629. Good luck!
